Finding period correct style luggage can present a challenge for a reenactor. In particular, musical instrument cases appropriate to the Victorian era can be particularly difficult to come by.
With my instrument cases, I do not exactly reproduce any particular antique case, but as with my banjos, I take general styles and furnishings from the 1800s and incorporate them into my own cases. I use modern reproduction Victorian trunk hinges and hasps to create a vintage feel. All of my cases are made of wood. Typically I paint the outside black and upholster the inside with a green felt. There is no padding other than the felt. These are sturdy cases and my personal one (banjo within) has survived several journeys by Concord coaches and Wells Fargo stages. (Did I mention that I am a time traveller?)
I am always willing to customize. If you have a picture of a specific case that you would like me to reproduce, please send me the picture with desired dimensions and I will provide a quotation.
I can do custom orders for almost any instrument. Contact me if you want a specialty case and I will work up a quote.
