This dulcimer is made in Pakistan.  Also known as an Appalachian Dulcimer, It has 4 strings, rosewood body with spruce soundboard, hour-glass shape, heart shaped cutouts in soundboard. Case (DMHC) sold separately. Most early dulcimers had a strictly diatonic scale; that is, the frets were placed so as to produce a major scale (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do) with no extra half steps. In modern times, dulcimer players have found that the placement of an extra fret between the 6th and 7th fret allows two things. A major scale can be produced starting at another point (on the open string), and most songs containing accidental notes can he played. The 6 1/2 fret adds versatility. This dulcimer has the 6 1/2 and the 13 1/2 frets.

Black Mountain Dulcimer
Shipping Weight 6 Lbs.
If you are serious about getting a fine dulcimer at a great price, then this is your instrument.  This dulcimer is American made and customized to take friction rosewood pegs in lieu of geared tuners.  It is made with a solid quarter-sawn cedar top and solid cherry back, sides and head. The fingerboard is cherry. Together, these woods produce a sweet, ringing tone.

A longer scale and deeper body give these instruments more volume and a richer tone than many of the dulcimers you may be familiar with. They feature scroll heads, heart-shaped sound holes (optional round or diamond shaped sound holes are available at no extra charge), four-string set up, nickel/silver fretted fingerboards, and book-matched solid wood tops and backs. Although geared pegs are common from the mid-19th Century, it is difficult to acquire correct looking brass, bone or ivory components. Though a little trickier to tune, our 19th Century Style Dulcimers come with friction tuning pegs to appear more period correct.  The hourglass shaped bodies have lacquered, hand-rubbed finishes. Length, width, and depth are 36" x 7 7/8" x 3 1/8". Scale length" is 29 1/4".
