A mainstay of the minstrel stage was the tambourine.  Part drum, part symbols and part stage prop,  it was a boisterous vehicle for dancing antics and "walk-arounds".  Together with the bones, the tambourine provided the beat and pace of the performance.  It called the audience to attention and punctuated the climax of many a frolicking tune.

Since we were bending wood anyway, we thought we'd include tambourines in our product line.  This one is made from deer rawhide stretched and tacked to an ash hoop approx. 10 3/4" inches in diameter.  The cymbals are cut from sheet brass and hammered into shape.  They are anchored with brass rods, countersunk up through
the bottom of the hoop.  Hand-made in old the minstrel style, each tambourine is a unique original.
